Anti-aging through Genetics

How To Live To 100 Years

In today society, 50 is no longer considered old. In fact, 50 is the new 30, as many now 30 year olds are realizing their own youth. A few generations ago, the life expectancy was dismally young, and many people of generation X lost grandparents who were only a little older than their parents are now. Baby boomers are not feeling old, and are wondering what is the secret to longevity?

The greatest secret to longevity has everything to do with what we put into our bodies and what we expect out of our bodies. When we eat a healthy clean diet, refrain from unhealthy habits like drugs, alcohol, smoking, and even too much doctor prescribed and over the counter medication, our bodies operate on a higher level of functioning. Moderate daily exercise like walks and gardening can also boost our longevity by a few years.

Good health is about balance. The secret to longevity is about achieving that balance on a daily basis while learning to live more freely within ourselves. Faith, regardless of what denomination, has proven to help people live healthier, happier, and longer lives. Simply having faith in the universe can prolong life by increasing our daily level of joy. Depression, even mild depression that makes us tired or feel down for short periods of time, does actually inhibit our ability to feel at our healthiest and can inhibit daily practices that increase our health and increase our longevity.

Genetics may or may not play a role in the secret to longevity. In some cases, an individual who had two parents die of a heart attack but took excellent care of their body (like not drinking, smoking, playing around with recreational enhancements, or eating high cholesterol foods) might be able to make up for whatever their genetics may have given them. In other cases, doing all the right things may not outweigh the genetic roles our DNA has determined for us. This does not imply that a person whose parents died of cancer will automatically get cancer no matter what they do. Rather, by controlling the factors we can control, we might be able to tip the balance in our favor.

Mental workouts are just much part of the secret to longevity as physical workouts. For those who spend retirement in front of the mind numbing television, chances are good they will begin to experience mental challenges much earlier than someone who experiences life to the fullest, visits with neighbors and friends to have intellectual discussions, and pulls out the crossword puzzle instead of the TV Guide for mental stimulation.

New Anti-aging Therapy, “turns On” Your Longevity Gene

Last month I spoke at an anti-aging conference in Las Vegas. At the conference I was able to present research on a topic that I am very excited about, TA-65.1

After my speech people in the audience surrounded me – asking question after question about TA-65. Even other doctors certified in anti-aging had never heard of this remarkable new anti-aging therapy. I was shocked by the response.a One of the doctors from the audience even started referring to the TA-65 approach as “Dr. Sears’ theory.”

I told the crowd about my own personal experience taking TA-65—my vision has improved. I am mentally sharper and most importantly, I feel healthier.
They finally realized that there is an alternative to hormone and antioxidant therapy for aging.

Geron Corporation and TA Sciences are on the verge of taking the health problems associated with the aging process—and making them a thing of the past. In fact, it’s already happening. And there are steps you can take to put the brakes on aging, right at home and right away.

During my presentation I offered the results of over 12 years of research on telomeric activity, showing that many age-related conditions are directly connected to the shortening of your telomeres.

Telomeres are a part of your DNA. They are the caps on the ends of each DNA strand and ensure your DNA isn’t damaged during cell division. Every time your cells divide, your DNA loses a little bit of the telomere, or protective caps. At some point, telomeres get too short and can no longer support cell division. The result of this can be the various conditions associated with old age.

The enzyme telomerase supports cell division. Telomerase enables the cell to divide indefinitely by adding back the bit of telomere lost during each cell division.

The problem most of us have is that the telomerase enzyme is turned off, and therefore not helping to secure the telomeres on our DNA strands.

The new anti-aging therapy, TA-65, “turns on” the gene that makes telomerase.

Most people only think of genes as components that determine basic body features like hair, skin and eye color. But they also play a role in your health. How your genes express themselves has a profound effect on your future. If you control how your genes express themselves, then in theory, you can turn on genes that lengthen your life and turn off genes that lead to chronic diseases associated with aging.

TA-65 affects genes related to aging and cell division. But if you don’t have the ability to visit my office or one of the very few other doctors licensed to practice TA-65 therapy, you still have the opportunity to influence gene expression.

The supplement resveratrol also influences the way genes are expressed. Resveratrol has the ability to activate anti-aging genes called sirtuins. Sirtuins transmit signals to every cell in your body that literally cancel out the effects of aging. They bring the processes that lead cell death to a crawl, buying your body more time to repair the DNA damage that brings life to an end.

For years we’ve been looking for another way to turn on these “longevity genes.”

Resveratrol is found in plums, grapes, blueberries, cranberries, and other plants.

Resveratrol has been shown at times to extend the life span of yeast and mice.2 In studies conducted on animals, resveratrol was found to switch on the genes that repair DNA damaged by free radicals, fight inflammation, support healthy glucose metabolism and promote cardiovascular health.*

You can benefit from the gene expression power of resveratrol right away. The problem is how to get enough of it.

I recommend adding foods rich in resveratrol to your diet. Wine and related beverages are a particularly good source of concentrated resveratrol. Here’s a list of high-content wines:

Beverage Total Resveratrol (mg/L) Total Resveratrol in a 5 oz glass (mg)

Muscadine wines            14.1–40 2.12–6
Red wines (global)    1.98–7.13 .30–1.07
Red wines (Spanish)    1.92–12.59 0.29–1.89
Red grape juice (Spanish)  1.14–8.69 0.17–1.30
Rose wines (Spanish)    .43–3.52 .06–0.53
Pinot Noir            .40–2.0 0.06–0.30
White wines (Spanish)    0.05–1.80 0.01–0.27

The problem lies in getting sufficient amounts of resveratrol. As you can see from the chart you’d need to drink 1,000 to 3,000 glasses of wine to experience the life extending benefits of resveratrol. Resveratrol supplements are a better option. They’re inexpensive and completely safe. You can find them in health food stores or on line. I recommend taking around 10 mg per day.
